The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is a general English language proficiency test.It is primarily used for immigration, citizenship, and academic purposes in Canada. It is recognized by the Canadian government for immigration applications, including for Express Entry and Permanent Residence. CELPIP is also accepted by universities and professional organizations in Canada for academic and job-related purposes.
The CELPIP Test allows test takers to demonstrate their ability to function in English. The test clearly, accurately, and precisely assesses a test taker’s English abilities in a variety of everyday situations, such as communicating with co-workers and superiors in the workplace, interacting with friends, understanding newscasts, and interpreting and responding to written materials
The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) Tests are designed to evaluate test takers ability to communicate with superiors, co-workers, and others in the workplace and community. Types of CELPIP Tests
There are two versions of the CELPIP exam:
Listening Section (about 47 minutes)
This section evaluates your ability to understand spoken English in everyday situations. There are 6 parts in the listening section.
Reading Section (about 55 minutes)
This section measures your ability to understand written texts in English. It contains 4 tasks that test your reading comprehension and ability to interpret information from different types of texts.
Writing Section (about 53 minutes)
This section evaluates your ability to write clear, coherent responses in English. You will be required to complete 2 tasks:
Speaking Section (about 15 minutes)
This section tests your ability to speak clearly and fluently in English. You will respond to 8 tasks that simulate real-life situations.
The CELPIP test is scored on a scale from 1 to 12 for each section, with each score corresponding to different levels of proficiency.

The overall CELPIP score is the average of your individual section scores, and you will receive a score for each section separately.
